How to Fill your gift bag

I adore watching those videos where people wrap gifts flawlessly, but honestly, wrapping has never been my strong suit—and don’t get me started on the leftover scraps of paper that can’t be reused! That’s why I usually go for gift bags. The only downside? Sometimes they feel a little empty, with the present sitting at the bottom and nothing filling the space in between.
So, to make gift bags feel more exciting and “wow” to open, here are some simple ideas you can add inside:
- Handmade Origami or Paper Stars – fold colorful paper into little shapes to add charm and volume. You can buy the paper strips from Amazon, use this video as a tutorial. Feel free to use the leftover gift wrapping paper as well!.
- DIY Scented Sachets – sew or tie small fabric pouches filled with lavender, cinnamon sticks, or dried rose petals.
- Homemade Mini Treats – bake cookies or make chocolate bark, wrap them in these self–adhesive bags or these other cellophane ones with a tie. They are going to look super cute!
- Personalized Notes or Quote Cards – write cozy affirmations or favorite book quotes on cards. Or try these notes that already have a positive message on them.
- DIY Decorative Confetti – use these punchers to make shapes out of old magazines, scrapbook paper, or recycled wrapping paper.
With just a few handmade touches, even the simplest gift bag can feel abundant and personal. These little DIY additions don’t just fill space—they add thoughtfulness, charm, and a sense of “wow” when someone opens their present. It’s proof that the smallest details can make gifting feel extra special.
